They all worked!!!

Success!!!! We were all able to get on the computers and start keyboarding!!!! The kids were so excited. We were able to keyboard everyday. I realized that I need to get the kids through the keyboarding program before we are able to do much with writing and spelling.
The next step is to get the kids onto the school folder. They will then be able to access all the learning games that I have loaded to help reinforce the concepts they are learning. Hopefully they will be able to access them this week.
One problem that we are having is getting them in and out of the cart. The computers have a coating on them so they don't slide easily and they need to go in the opposite way of the one next to it.  They also get confused on which power cord is theirs. The cart is pretty small for all the computers. It is taking us about 15 minutes to get them all in the cart. I think I will need to have the kids get them in the morning then put them back before school is out. They do fit really well in their desks. I wonder how long the battery would last? Maybe we can keep them in their desks for 2 days then plug them in. Hopefully, the kids will get faster at putting them away.

Patience is a virtue...

Still no one in to fix the computer password problem. I am suppose to start keyboarding tomorrow. The first couple of lessons is just learning about the computer components so I should be ok without the computers. I will keep my fingers crossed and pray a little that they will be ready soon. I have had to make some accommodations with my curriculum as I was planning on starting with these computers the first week. I also have modified my schedule because I planned an extra 1/2 hour in the afternoon for computer time. Katie made a good point. I need to have a backup plan when I have planned to use the computers because as with any technology there could be problems. PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE

1st day of using the computers- Logging in

Katie came in today to train the kids and me and guess what?!- 11 kids log in and passwords did not work!! All we got to do today was open them, log in (some of the kids) and wait for them to load,  showed them where Word was, then shut them down and put them away. The kids and I were really disappointed. :(

I need to keep remembering that I am part of a pilot program- I am going to find all of the quirks. I also reminded the students of this.

I also found out that the children do not have access to all the programs on the computer. I will need to find out what I need to do for this. What if I want to use Excel or something other than just a Word document? I also do not have the school folder on the computers. This is where I was going to have all the kids save their work so I can access it and where they will be able to log-in to computer game sites that I want them to use.
